Our Story
PCA Oregon began in 2008 with a few visionary Board Members and a belief in a future where all children and families in Oregon can thrive. PCAO spent it’s formative years as a provisional chapter of Prevent Child Abuse America, acting as an advisory body of the Children’s Trust Fund of Oregon and the Oregon Commission on Children and Families. In 2018, the Children’s Trust Fund of Oregon merged with Children First for Oregon to become Our Children Oregon, and PCAO began the shift toward becoming an independent 501c3. As an independent organization in 2019, PCAO launched two core programmatic pillars: the Child Abuse Prevention Collaborative and the Community Leadership Council. With an intentional focus on policy advocacy and collaboration, PCAO focused our early years as an independent 501c3 on building core relationships and community-informed strategies to support prevention work statewide. In 2022 PCAO was awarded full chartered chapter status by PCA America, recognizing the growth and trusted status of PCAO as a catalyst for child abuse prevention in Oregon.
Since 2022, PCAO has been continuing to grow, expand, and shape our vision around the needs and opportunities present in Oregon’s communities. With strong relationships at the core and a commitment to child and family wellbeing, the PCAO team continues to lead with creativity and hope for the future we’re building together- one where all children and families are living a purposeful and happy life with hope for the future.
We’ve come a long way since 2008 and are steeped in gratitude for the ongoing support and commitment from our partners, funders, allies, advocates and champions along the way. We invite you to continue exploring our website to learn more about our current programs and partnerships and find out how you can join us in preventing child abuse and ensuring children and families in Oregon can thrive.
PCAO draws together partners to develop and implement innovative solutions for preventing violence and abuse.
We bring people together to nurture communities where children and families can thrive.
It’s a future we invest in, every day.
From the many disconnected pieces, we knit together a big-picture perspective that makes a cohesive approach to violence and abuse prevention possible. PCAO also works closely with community partners and donors, and advocates at the legislative level for policies that are guided and informed by families and communities. Healthy children, families, and communities are critical to Oregon’s future.
